- Rohit will leave for the UK from Bengaluru on June 20
- Rohit will lead in the one-off Test, starting July 1 in Birmingham
Rohit Sharma is all set to leave for England on June 20 as the skipper is all set to join a group of players who will head to the UK after the completion of the ongoing T20I series against South Africa at home. Rohit will lead India in the one-off Test, which is a spillover from last year’s 5-Test series, which remained incomplete due to Covid-19 concerns. India and England will meet in the first Test in Birmingham from July 1.
Notably, a majority of India’s Test regulars, including former captain Virat Kohli, pacers Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Prasidh Krishna, and Mohammed Siraj, Cheteshwar Pujara, and opener Shubman Gill along with all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Shardul Thakur left for the UK on Thursday, June 16 morning from Mumbai.
Rohit Sharma’s absence from the batch that left for England from Mumbai on Thursday led to speculation about his fitness. However, Rohit is completely fit and will leave for England with the white-ball specialists and a few other Test players from Bengaluru on June 20, according to Sports Today.
Notably, the likes of Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer, who are part of the ongoing T20I series against South Africa, will also join Rohit with the Test squad in England. Off-spinner R Ashwin was also not spotted with the batch of Test players who left from Mumbai on Thursday.
